“WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS”. Or rather, “IT’S RAINING MEN!” That’s how I would exactly describe the terebi dorama scene in Japan this spring season. Perhaps spring brings a wave of freshness that have somewhat sparked the competitive spirit between broadcast network in Japan? Whatever the reason is, I bet fans around the world are happy, nay, ECSTATIC about what’s showing in April.

How can we not be? Spring season is bringing us the ultimate mecha-mecha eye candy: MatsuJun in Smile (TVB), Sho Sakurai in The Quiz Show (NTV) and now Ikuta Toma in Majo Saiban (Fuji TV). All showing at different time slots. How very clever of them eh? And very convinient for the fans as well. *tehee*

Synopsis
A young freeter (Ikuta Toma) – the term used to describe freelance part-time workers – who has no interest in social issues gets embroiled in a baffling case when he is chosen to be a juror. A woman (Ishida Yuriko) is accused of a murder over an inheritance. She is surely guilty but why are the jurors votes leaning towards innocent? This is because a mysterious group is working behind the scenes to fix the verdict.

Popular young actor Ikuta Toma has a solo starring role in a drama series for the first time. The show, titled “Majo Saiban,” will be the first drama to tackle the issue of Japan’s new “saiban-in” (lay judge) system.

This May, Japan is reintroducing the jury system, which was previously abolished in 1943. Since then, only judges have decide the outcome of criminal cases, but under the new system, cases will be decided by a combination of judges and lottery-selected citizens.

In “Majo Saiban,” Ikuta plays a typical part-timer with little interest in social issues. However, he is unexpectedly chosen as a juror in the trial of a suspected female murderer. While the mystery surrounding the case unfolds, an unknown group is secretly attempting to bribe the jury.

Actress Kato Ai plays a housewife who is also selected as a juror, while Higa Manami plays Ikuta’s girlfriend, a newspaper reporter. Ishida Yuriko takes on the role of the accused.

Fuji TV will air “Majo Saiban” on Saturday nights at 11:10pm. The series starts on April 25, about a month before the actual jury system goes into effect.

Another suspense dorama for Toma. I’m not surprised cause it is some what expected coming from the screenwriter of Maou. And I’m having mixed feelings about Toma’s hair style in here, cause it reminded me of Yamapi’s hair in Code Blue (who is btw, his bestfriend). But oh well, Toma still looks good!

April is definitely gonna be a busy month for Nippon terebi dorama fans. And for subbers as well. For that, I’d like to say in advance, chou domo arigatou to the subbers. Honto-hontoni, arigatou once again.
